The Black Lagoons are a four-piece band based in Leeds/London. The group consists of two brothers and two cousins. A family who together have built an intense world of music that feels familiar yet surreal. The band members are as follows: Harry Clowes - Vocals, Guitar; Patrick Clowes - Bass Guitar, Joe Farrow - Guitar, and Jamie Fish - Drums.
A listener might think that Ennio Morricone, Glen Branca, and Angelo Badalamenti had joined forces to compose music for The Gun Club, or that Lee Hazlewood had borrowed The Bad Seeds from Nick Cave. The band strikes a balance between experimental dissonance and catchy hooks with cinematic melodies. This sound has evolved over 10 years of playing together, starting as teenagers playing the likes of Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry. and Johnny Cash. Through these years of evolution, they’ve supported acts such as The Wytches, And Yet It Moves, Warmduscher, The Psychotic Monks, and more. A thread of rock ‘n’ roll has continued down the line and interwoven with more left-field influences to result in their debut album, ‘These Hills We Ride’.
The conception of the debut album began in Leeds in 2022, found its way to Ramsgate to be recorded in 2023, then to the ears of French label Creme Brulee, to finally be released via the label in 2025. The album was recorded in a Chapel by the sea called Big Jelly Studios, mixed by bassist Patrick Clowes and mastered by Sam Smith at Green Door Studios. All of the art and design work for the album was made by the frontman Harry Clowes, combining a visual and sonic vision which solely belongs to The Black Lagoons.
