Hungarian groove metal icons Ektomorf return with ‘Heretic’, their most personal, intense, and emotionally devastating album to date. After the acclaimed ‘Vivid Black’ and their largest headlining tour to date, frontman Zoltán ‘Zoli’ Farkas delivers a sonic exorcism shaped by personal tragedy: the loss of his mother and his beloved dog Wuffa. Produced by longtime collaborator Tue Madsen, Heretic is a crushing throwback to the band’s ‘Outcast’ / ‘Destroy’ era, but darker, angrier and even more relentless.
‘Heretic’ is not just a musical turning point. It also marks Ektomorf’s return to Bleeding Nose Records. After many years of experimenting, trying new things and evolving, the
band is back where they belong. With ‘Heretic’, Ektomorf have not only created another album, they have also reinvented themselves. The sound returns to the best eras of ‘Outcast’ and ‘Destroy’, featuring brutal Drop-B and Drop-A tunings, crushing riffs and their unmistakable powerful groove. Yet, at the same time, the album takes things even further. It is angrier. It is darker. It is more relentless.
The guitar walls are more massive than ever, reinforced by the same Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier that Zoli already used on ‘Outcast’, only this time with a modern, more brutal sonic dimension that surpasses everything before it. But it’s not just the sound that makes ‘Heretic’ so extraordinary. Every song on the album tells a story of pain, loss and the rage against a world that destroys everything you care about.
Produced by Tue Madsen (Heaven Shall Burn, Dark Tranquillity, Suicide Silence).
